Pen y Cymoedd was developed by Piers Guy and his skilled team at Vattenfall and is a leader in a number of areas:
- Only S36 project in Wales to achieve consent without a Public Inquiry
- Largest onshore turbines in the UK at the time with 145m tip height
- First Project In England & Wales to get active support from the RSPB
- Largest Peatland Habitat Restoration project in Wales at 1500Ha
- Pen y Cymoedd Community Fund CIC helping to fund positive transformation in the South Wales Valleys
- Achieves almost 60% UK content
- 22MW Fast Frequency Response Battery on-site
The project is an excellent example of Guy Energy’s development philosophy combining environmental and societal benefits whilst lowering development risks to deliver a best-in-class project.
