Overview
Ray was a Section 36 wind farm developed by Piers Guy and his team based in Hexham, Northumberland. Significant National Air Traffic (NATS) and radar interference at Newcastle Airport challenges were overcome through a joint project to use the Raytheon radar solution. The project was led by Piers and his team working closely with NATS and resulted in the first time the Raytheon solution had been used to enable wind farms to be built. Ray also has created additional habitat for the smallest bird of prey – the Merlin, 23 Merlin chicks have so far hatched in habitat around the Ray wind farm since 2017.
